Jinder Mahal shocked the world on Tuesday when he became the No. 1 contender for the WWE championship at Backlash. The latest WWE rumors have revealed the reason why Mahal was given a sudden push by the company.

As recapped by WWE.com, Mahal competed in a six-pack challenge on SmackDown Live against Sami Zayn, Dolph Ziggler, Mojo Rawley, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan. He got the win after hitting the Cobra Clutch Slam on Zayn.

"The Maharajah" was assisted by the interference by Gurv and Harv Singh, the former Bollywood Boyz, who prevented Zayn from hitting the Helluva Kick. It seems like Mahal and The Singh Brothers now have a stable moving forward.

Many fans were surprised by the fact that a former mid-card jobber who never wins a match suddenly got the opportunity to win the WWE championship. Apparently, the WWE wants Mahal to represent the company as it expands its business in India.

According to Sportskeeda, the WWE have expanded its operations in India, one of the biggest markets for the company in the world. The WWE recently opened a fan shop in the country, as well as an office headed by Sheetesh Srivastava, who previously worked for Walt Disney India.

The report noted that Mahal and Singh Brothers merchandise is going to be on sale in the shop in India with the company hoping it will get sold out. Gurv and Harv were also present on this week's NXT tapings where they accompanied Jeet Rama, another Indian superstar, to the ring for his match, per Wrestle Zone.

The WWE is going all-in with their plans to expand in Asia following a flurry of signings in China and now in India. Mahal will surely be the leader of the new Indian stable. However, it should be noted that the 30-year-old superstar is a native of Calgary but he can speak fluent Punjabi.

On the other hand, The Singh Brothers are from Vancouver and they were part of the 2016 Cruiserweight Classic Tournament. Finally, Rama is from Haryana, India and he came into the WWE along with fellow Indian wrestler Lovepreet Sangha.
