After NES Classic Edition, SNES Classic Edition Coming Next; Possible Release Date Leaked
It looks like Nintendo discontinued the distribution of NES Classic Edition to make way for the release of SNES Classic Edition. The unit is said to be still under development but is already scheduled for release this Christmas. This edition will follow the same plug and play setup with pre-installed games like NES Classic Mini.
Despite the success of NES Mini re-launch, the company never intended it to be a permanent product according to Eurogamer. Nintendo had to stop its production to make way for SNES Classic Edition. NES Classic Edition was only a cool novelty item that would make a great Christmas 2016 gift. However, due to its increasing demand, Nintendo extended its release until early this year. But it cannot be further extended since SNES Mini will be coming later this year.
There are no details yet given as to which games will be included in the new SNES Mini. And the device hosts a lot of games in the past so its really hard to guess which ones will be included. However, SNES mini brings better software line-up and their own version of popular games from NES Classic edition according to Polygon. This includes “A Link to the Past” of “Legend of Zelda” and SNES Classic Edition’s “Donkey Kong Country” to NES mini’s “Donkey Kong”.
Other popular games from SNES mini includes ”Super Mario Kart”, ”Super Metroid”, ”Super Mario World”, ”Star Fox”, ”Earthbound”, Square’s “Chrono Trigger”, “Secret of Mana” and ”Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars”. SNES Classic Edition has so many great titles to choose from that makes the anticipation of its arrival much more exciting.
The SNES mini or also known as Super Nintendo Entertainment System was first released in 1990 as a 16-bit home video game console. It was first available in Japan and South Korea but reached North America by 1991. The following year, the game was released in Europe, Australasia and South America in 1993.
