WWE Rumors: Matt Hardy Using 'Broken' Character on Television Very Soon?
When Matt and Jeff Hardy returned at WrestleMania 33, the WWE universe was in shock and happy that they are back in the WWE. However, many fans noticed that Matt was not in his "Broken" character although he was using some of his mannerisms and catchphrases.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer (h/t PW Mania), Matt cannot use the "Broken" character on WWE television because of a legal dispute with Impact Wrestling. The WWE is trying to get a deal done to allow Matt to be broken again and entertain everyone.
Impact Wrestling is claiming that the "Broken" character was created by Jeremy Borash, Dava Lagana, and Billy Corgan. Although Borash had a lot of input, it was Matt who had creative control over the character and seems to have legitimately created the character.
But in the meantime, fans will just have to settle for a watered down version of Broken Matt Hardy as he continues to team up with his brother Jeff. The Hardy Boyz are currently the Raw Tag Team champions and they will defend the titles at Payback against Cesaro and Sheamus.
On the other hand, a different report is claiming that the real reason why the WWE is not allowing Matt to use his "Broken" gimmick is Vince McMahon. According to Sportskeeda, the WWE chairman is not a fan of the character despite the creative team loving the Broken Matt Hardy character.
It's not all bad news because the chairman has heard the reaction Matt and Jeff gets on shows while using the "Delete" chants. McMahon is reportedly now more open to using the gimmick and he has instructed the creative team to come up with ideas to introduce them on WWE television.
The only obstacle remaining is the legal dispute with Impact Wrestling. But being a billionaire, McMahon won't have any problems paying his once rivals money to use Broken Matt Hardy and have feuds with stars like Bray Wyatt and Finn Balor. As for Jeff, he is still one of the biggest and most charismatic babyfaces in wrestling and he is expected to be one of the main event player on Raw moving forward.
