NBA Trade Rumors: New York Knicks' Carmelo Anthony Perfect Acquisition for Los Angeles Lakers
Carmelo Anthony is leaving the New York Knicks this offseason and one team that can trade for him is the Los Angeles Lakers. Anthony's arrival in the City of Angels could be the answer to all of the problems the Lakers are dealing with in the past few years.
A trade for Anthony was suggested by a report on SB Nation's Silver Screen & Roll. A package deal that may get the approval of Phil Jackson and the Knicks will feature Luol Deng, Timofey Mozgov, and Jordan Clarkson. Another one would have Clarkson, Deng, and the pick Los Angeles got in the trade that sent Lou Williams to the Houston Rockets.
The main point of involving Deng is to get rid of his massive contract, which will create space in the salary cap. Clarkson is part of the Lakers' prized young core but without him, New York may reject any offer.
Another positive that Anthony's acquisition can bring is that big names in free agency would be interested in Los Angeles. In the NBA today, stars are teaming up and the 32-year-old veteran remains a star despite everything he went through on and off the court. The Lakers are in need of a franchise player after Kobe Bryant's retirement.
SB Nation's Silver Screen & Roll mentioned that having Anthony can increase the chances of the Lakers in bringing in Paul George. Anthony and George had a great time playing together for Team USA in the 2016 Rio Olympics. They can do that again but this time donning the purple and gold.
It is unknown what the Lakers have in stored for their fans in the 2017 offseason. Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka promised changes and they are expected to make impactful moves for the team to get better. Los Angeles is a cellar dweller in the past four seasons.
