WWE Rumors: Vince McMahon Retiring? WWE Chairman Finally Slowing Down
Vince McMahon has been fully involved in the WWE ever since he bought the company from his father in 1982. However, the WWE chairman is also 71 years old and he is rumored to be showing signs of slowing down.
According to Cageside Seats, McMahon was not present at the Payback pay-per-view last Sunday in San Jose, California. He also missed Monday Night Raw the next night and SmackDown Live on Tuesday. No reason was given but a lot of speculations have floated around the internet.
One of the rumored reasons is the WWE chairman does not want to fly to the West Coast anymore. Several reports have also noted that McMahon is showing signs of slowing down because of his age and the wear and tear of working a lot of hours every day for four decades.
Is Vince finally thinking about retirement and handing the keys of the company to Stephanie McMahon and Triple H? Maybe, but the 71-year-old billionaire is a workaholic and he might be just limiting his work load from now on.
Vince is still a very busy man, but he now has the luxury of taking a back seat because of the new structure of the company. He still makes the final decisions and he is heavily involved in what storylines make it to television.
Despite the WWE chairman slowing down, the company is not, as WWE recently released their first quarter earnings for 2017. Revenue and WWE Network subscribers increased in the first quarter, as well as the net income of the company.
"We are pleased with the continued growth of WWE Network, which is a critical building block of our content strategy. The recent production of WrestleMania set records for network viewership as well as digital and social engagement," McMahon said, via Wrestling Inc.
The WWE is continually expanding its company all over the world. They recently opened offices and fan shops in China and India. Vince may be 71 years old, but the company he built will last more than 100 years.
