NFL News: Seattle Seahawks Trade Piece Richard Sherman Approves Colin Kaepernick Addition
Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman is back in NFL news, but this time there are no trade talks involved. The focus is on free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick who Sherman is a fan of. Kaepernick is recently being linked to the Seahawks.
Kaepernick's name got connected to Seattle because the team is seeking for a backup quarterback. The Seahawks are believed to be choosing between him and another free agent, Robert Griffin III.
If the Seahawks pursue Kaepernick, they might have the approval of Sherman. In a discussion on Up to the Minute which was posted on NFL.com, Michael Silver shared that he spoke to Sherman who is a fan of Kaepernick. This likely means it would be okay for the cornerback if the quarterback heads to Seattle this offseason.
There is more good news for Kaepernick if it is true that Seattle is eyeing him. ESPN reported that another member of the Seahawks' defensive unit wants him on the team. Defensive end Michael Bennett believes the quarterback fits well with the organization. He mentioned the 30-year-old's attributes like leadership which will be good for their locker room and the courage he has shown last season.
The Seahawks truly need a backup quarterback since they lack depth at the position. Following Russell Wilson on the depth chart is Trevone Boykin. The 23-year-old is a decent passer but he is still new in the NFL and this offseason was arrested several times, which is not a good sign.
Nobody is replacing Wilson in Seattle anytime soon and that is clear. But what the Seahawks must add is a second stringer who is experienced and capable of taking the starting duties once the face of the franchise gets injured. Kaepernick is a perfect candidate and hopefully, this time he will be given a chance.
