NBA News: Boston Celtics' Isaiah Thomas Not Threatened by Potential No. 1 Draft Pick Markelle Fultz
Many believe the future of Isaiah Thomas is uncertain after the Boston Celtics got the No. 1 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. Some are expecting them to select Markelle Fultz who is also a point guard. Despite this, there are no worries for Thomas who is the Celtics' main playmaker for nearly three seasons now.
According to ESPN, Thomas recently revealed to reporters that he is talking to Fultz and they are good friends. Thomas also said yes when asked if he spoke to the prospect after the draft lottery. The All-Star gave limited details but said the University of Washington standout is excited, even though it is yet to be determined where he is going.
As of this moment, it is unknown if Boston is planning to use the top pick on Fultz. The good news is, Thomas is willing and ready to work with him if ever the Celtics do.
A lot of NBA fans and analysts think that Fultz heading to Boston will ruin Thomas' stint with the team. Since Fultz is younger, there is a sense that he is taking over once he joins the organization. This is far-fetched because the Celtics truly value Thomas. Before they acquired him via a trade with the Phoenix Suns in 2015, they were seeking for a player who can help turn the tables around for them.
Thomas did just that when he arrived in Boston and he continues to lead the Celtics. The 28-year-old immediately became the face of the franchise.
This issue is unlikely a concern for Thomas who is focused on bouncing back after the Cleveland Cavaliers dominated Boston in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. In a report by Yahoo Sports!, he expressed belief in the Celtics, while adding that the reigning NBA champions are not the Monstars.
Game 2 of the Celtics-Cavaliers series will be played today, still at the TD Garden. Boston hopes to tie it before the series transfers to the Quicken Loans Arena for Games 3 and 4.
