NFL News: Quarterback Brock Osweiler Ready to Take Major Role With Cleveland Browns
The 2016 NFL season made people doubt quarterback Brock Osweiler's ability to be a starter. Despite this, he is not discouraged and recently expressed that he remains a starting quarterback in the league, specifically for the Cleveland Browns.
Osweiler gained attention when he started for the Denver Broncos in a number of games during the 2015 NFL regular season. Following that outing, several teams became interested in him and he ended up signing with the Houston Texans.
There was great promise when Osweiler headed to Houston. The Texans saw him as the answer to their quarterback troubles. Unfortunately, he failed to deliver and last March, they shipped him to Cleveland. Numerous reports claimed that the Browns have no plans to hold on to him for long. They are aiming to deal him away for some assets this summer.
However, all of this information might be false. According to ESPN, on Wednesday, Osweiler had his first interview since being traded from Houston to Cleveland. Among the questions asked to him was if he is a starting quarterback in the NFL. The 26-year-old had no hesitations and responded, "Absolutely." He also spoke about the great welcome he received from the Browns and shared that he is "excited" to be in Believeland.
As of this moment, Osweiler is still trying to prove himself to the Browns. In a report by Cleveland.com, a portion of his latest interview was shared and it showed no signs that he is going to settle for the backup role anytime soon.
"I'm the new guy on the block. I need to earn my stripes here, if you will. But I can promise you I'm going to work as hard as I possibly can every day, because nobody plays this game to be a backup or to lose football games," Osweiler stated.
