AMD Ryzen Threadripper for High-End Desktop (HEDT) Coming This August, Faceoff with Intel Skylake
AMD is reportedly going to introduce its Threadripper processors based on Ryzen architecture which is intended for High-End Desktop (HEDT) this coming August. This could be an interesting faceoff between AMD and Intel as the latter is scheduled to release its second tranche of Skylake processors around this time.
According to sources close to Tech website KitGuru, "AMD should launch Threadripper around the 10th of August, after moving the date from a late July launch. This is what we have heard through the channel and if true, would mean we will be seeing AMD and Intel square up once again, this time in the HEDT market."
The same report suggested that AMD's flagship Threadripper will feature 16 cores and 32 threads. If the leak about the release date for this processor is true, then it will only face Intel Core i9-7920X.
As reported by The Motley Fool, Intel will be releasing a 12-core model in August, while the more powerful 14-, 16-, and 18-core models are scheduled for release in October. Meanwhile, Intel will start accepting pre-orders for 4-, 6-, 8-, and 10-core processors beginning on June 19. Shipping starts the following week. This will include the two 4-core Kaby Lake processors Intel Core i7-7740X and Intel Core i5-7640X.
Meanwhile, here is the list of all Skylake processors which will be release in the market starting this June, as posted by WCCFTech:
