Boston Celtics News: High-Profile Fan Wants No. 1 Pick out of Beantown
In the latest Boston Celtics news, a movie star who is a fan of the team suggested that the No. 1 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft should be traded. Mark Wahlberg believes Boston must use the top selection to acquire a star player, which he said the team needs.
TMZ recently caught up with Wahlberg and he was asked about the Celtics' No. 1 pick. The actor did not sound too excited about it. He thinks Boston must let it go to add a star. The Transformers actor then mentioned the names of Jimmy Butler and Paul George.
It is understandable why Butler was one of the names mentioned. The Chicago Bulls All-Star is pretty close with Wahlberg and was linked to the Celtics several times in the past. Meanwhile, George may have been included because there are rumors that he is parting ways with the Indiana Pacers soon.
As of this moment, it is unknown what Boston will do with the No. 1 pick. In May, Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck stated that they have no interest in dealing it away for a player "halfway thru their career, already making max money."
If Boston keeps the No. 1 pick until the 2017 NBA Draft, it is expected to select Markelle Fultz. The University of Washington standout has been linked to the Celtics for some time now. He already met them and had a workout.
The opinion of Wahlberg will unlikely affect Boston's decision when it comes to the draft. However, it is going to be interesting if the Celtics do what he said. Both Butler and George are legitimate star players in the NBA. Either one can help the C's challenge the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference and help the franchise return to title contention.
