Dallas Mavericks Roster: Mavs Favored to Sign Point Guard Jrue Holiday; Devin Harris' Future Questionable
The Dallas Mavericks roster may soon acquire another elite point guard in impending free agent Jrue Holiday. Dallas is one of the organizations considered as frontrunners for Holiday, who spent the past four seasons playing for the New Orleans Pelicans.
It was NBA reporter Jake Fischer who broke the news about the Mavericks' intention of signing Holiday, FanSided reported. According to Fischer, the Mavs are also interested in bringing in his older brother Justin. Both of them are set to become unrestricted free agents this summer.
Holiday is one of the most consistent point guards in the NBA. Unfortunately, he is overlooked most of the time due to the presence of star playmakers like Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving, Russell Westbrook, and Chris Paul.
If Holiday ends up in Dallas, he will join J.J. Barea, Devin Harris, and Yogi Ferrell at point guard. It is likely that he would be a candidate for the starting job. No matter what role he gets with the Mavericks, the 27-year-old is going to be a significant upgrade for the team.
Sadly, Holiday's potential arrival in Dallas could spell the end of Harris' stint in the Big D. The veteran point guard is signed until next season but the Mavericks can let him go this offseason. It is possible that happens if they land Holiday because they need to release one player from the group to prevent problems related to playing time.
In a report by the Dallas Morning News, Harris spoke about his contract situation. As of this moment, he is not concerned about it.
"I just think of it as a surgery-free summer. So I try to enjoy it that way. Just enjoying healthy and working out and everything else will take care of itself. I don't really worry about it. Obviously, I'm in a little bit of limbo, but I'm just preparing like I'm going to be here. And if I'm not, I'm not," Harris explained.
