Los Angeles Lakers Trade: No. 2 Pick and Julius Randle to Boston Celtics for No. 1 Pick; Goodbye Lonzo Ball?
A Los Angeles Lakers trade idea might be brewing ahead of the 2017 NBA Draft. There were recent reports that Los Angeles is open to trading the No. 2 pick and the team may have found its ideal business partners. The Lakers could give it up to the Boston Celtics for the No. 1 pick.
It was just a few weeks ago when it looked like Lonzo Ball was a sure thing for Los Angeles. He and his father, LaVar, expressed numerous times their desire for him to be with the Lakers. There were even reports that the purple and gold franchise was "enamored" with the 19-year-old. Unfortunately for the UCLA star, that changed already.
In the past couple of weeks, other top prospects have worked out in Los Angeles aside from Ball. The Lakers were impressed and everyone is being considered. One of them is projected No. 1 pick, Markelle Fultz.
According to Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress, Fultz "murdered" his workout in Los Angeles. It was the best performance the Lakers have seen so far.
Unfortunately, if Los Angeles wants Fultz, the chances of picking him are minimal. He is viewed as the best player in this year's class and is expected to be the No. 1 pick. Due to this, the Lakers may complete a trade to boost their chances of selecting the University of Washington product.
A report by ClutchPoints suggested a Lakers trade that Los Angeles should consider. To get Fultz, the Lakers are sending the No. 2 pick and forward Julius Randle to the Boston Celtics. In return, they are acquiring the No. 1 pick. It is a must that Randle is included to make the package deal interesting for Boston.
There are no certainties that the Celtics would agree to this. Although if one young player is leaving Los Angeles this offseason, it is likely going to be Jordan Clarkson or D'Angelo Russell.
