Cleveland Cavaliers Roster: Kevin Love a Valuable Expendable
The Cleveland Cavaliers roster might need to bid farewell to one of its key pieces, Kevin Love. If contributions are to be discussed, Love had plenty for Cleveland. Unfortunately, the 2017 NBA Finals showed why the Cavaliers must part ways with him this offseason.
Changes are set to happen in Cleveland following the 2016-17 NBA season. The Cavaliers are going to exert effort to improve their roster. Unfortunately, Bleacher Report mentioned that they do not have that many valuable assets. Because of this, a member of the Big Three is likely to leave if they aim to accomplish a blockbuster move that will drastically make them better.
It is impossible that LeBron James is the one Cleveland trades this summer. The Cavaliers are also expected to make Kyrie Irving stay. What this means is that Love is the odd man out. A report by Ben Golliver of Sports Illustrated discussed this matter.
"Love is, and has been, the most expendable of Cleveland's three stars. This isn't a "Trade Love because he sucks!" decision, but rather a "Trade Love because matching up with Durant's Warriors demands it" decision," Golliver wrote.
Golliver's main point is that Cleveland must sacrifice Love's offensive contributions which were beneficial to the team in the last three seasons. It is to enhance their defense and match the Golden State Warriors.
The NBA trade rumors already began for Love who was linked to the New Orleans Pelicans a couple of days ago. Another report suggested that he is a great fit to the Portland Trail Blazers.
As of this moment, it remains unknown what the Cavaliers will be doing to bounce back after a heartbreaking end to their campaign. Aside from adjusting their roster, they need to deal with speculations, particularly the ones connecting James to Los Angeles.
