Kratos & Atreus Amazing Role & Features In PS4 Exclusive
Director and Writer Cory Barlog was on-hand to step us through some things that fans may have missed in the trailer since although it was short, it was full of details. There's a lot going on, so Cory was happy to dissect the video and explain what in the world is going on in the Norse lands, according to PlayStaion Lifestyle.
It all started with the beginning of the trailer. Fans saw Kratos rowing a boat, with his new axe on his back. If we all look closely, we can see some symbols on the weapon.
These symbols become important in the story, for reasons not yet disclosed, or perhaps left a mystery by Sony Santa Monica purposely, to give gamers time to discover their meanings. A conversation then occurs between Kratos' son, who we learn has the name Atreus.
Kratos & Atreus Journey Details
VG 247 reported that in the game Kratos and his son will work together on their journey. Since he does not speak the regional dialect, his son becomes indispensable when it comes to reading the text and conversing with the locals, according to the game's director Cory Barlog.
"Kratos and his son work together. The kid is not a burden. Kratos doesn't speak the language. His son, the whole game, is translating everything," Barlog told US Gamer. "Anytime you have written on the wall, he's reading it. Even though the kid speaks the language, he's never been outside of his forest.
"By the end, the kid's not a burden; when he gets better, you feel responsible for that. In other games, you feel like all you're doing is upgrading. In this one, I feel like you're proud of the kid."
In parts of the game, players will control Atreus, helping Kratos in some instances with enemies. As players progress, the son will learn more abilities. According to Kotkau, players will also gain allies which will aid the duo, one of which is a dwarf named Sindri, who forged the hammer of Thor, Mjolnir.
