Philadelphia 76ers News: Potential Key Player Suddenly Forgotten After Trade With Boston Celtics
In the latest Philadelphia 76ers news, the rebuilding franchise just abandoned what could have been a massive signing. The now forgotten possibility would have seen an All-Star head to Philadelphia. This prominent player is none other than point guard Kyle Lowry.
When the Toronto Raptors got eliminated by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2017 NBA Playoffs, Lowry shared his plan to test the free agency waters. Together with this, he expressed the desire to win an NBA championship.
Following Lowry's announcement, numerous rumors linking him to several teams circulated. One of them even stated that there was mutual interest between him and the 76ers. The 31-year-old is from the City of Brotherly Love that is why this made a lot of sense.
Sadly, a homecoming for Lowry is now impossible. A report by Bleacher Report stated that Philadelphia is no longer a potential destination for the veteran. The reason to this is the recent trade the 76ers accomplished with the Boston Celtics.
Philadelphia got the No. 1 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft from Boston. The Celtics, on the other hand, received the No. 3 pick that came with a couple of future first-rounders. The 76ers are reportedly selecting point guard Markelle Fultz with the top pick which strongly suggests that they no longer need Lowry.
Does this mean Lowry is staying in Toronto? No. According to the Toronto Star, the playmaker is displeased with the Raptors and has no intention of re-signing with them.
If this is true, it can still be expected that teams are going to chase Lowry and one of those grants him a lucrative pact. The Philly native is among the best point guards in the NBA today and is a top free agent that will be available starting July.
