NBA Rumors: Los Angeles Clippers Guard J.J. Redick to Be Pursued by Rebuilding Franchises
The latest NBA rumors again focus on a player from the Los Angeles Clippers. However, this time, it is neither Chris Paul nor Blake Griffin under the spotlight. It is J.J. Redick who is going to be an unrestricted free agent this July. Redick is reportedly on the radar of the Brooklyn Nets and the Philadelphia 76ers.
Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer reported Brooklyn and Philadelphia's interest in Redick. According to him, both squads will "make a hard push" for the veteran.
It is understandable why the Nets would be interested in Redick. Last May, the New York Post shared a statement by team general manager Sean Marks. He admitted that they are looking to add wing players this offseason, either via trade or free agency.
Redick can certainly help Brooklyn with this dilemma. He is one of the best shooters in the NBA today and is a reliable scorer. The former first-round pick (2011) is also a decent defender. The Nets have been longing for a player/s that can help them be contenders again, and he could be that guy.
Meanwhile, the 76ers aim to improve their outside shooting. Perhaps this is the reason why they are part of the Redick sweepstakes. As mentioned, the 33-year-old is among the greatest shooters currently in the NBA. Last season, he was attempting six three-pointers per game, a career-best.
As of this moment, Redick's future is difficult to predict. If his goal is to earn more, staying in Los Angeles to continue playing for the Clippers is not the right thing to do. It is because the organization is expected to use a huge chunk of its salary cap on Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. But if his desire is to keep the core intact and contend, then remaining in the City of Angels is the ideal move.
