Miami Heat Rumors: Gordon Hayward Prioritized Team; Utah Jazz and Boston Celtics Come in at Second
In Miami Heat rumors, Gordon Hayward may have given a hint regarding his future. The All-Star forward will start his free agency tour with a meeting in Miami. It means there is an excellent chance that the Heat can wow him with their pitch and land him this offseason.
The Salt Lake Tribune reported Hayward's scheduled meetings so far in the 2017 NBA free agency. As mentioned, Miami is first on the list which is huge. The 27-year-old's meeting with the Heat Saturday could determine his future.
Miami is always part of the discussions when it comes to Hayward's free agency. At first, it was Utah and Boston who were expected to go head to head in the Gordon Hayward sweepstakes. But in the past few weeks, the Heat gained on these organizations and became contenders. Now, they are the ones who will meet him first. This opportunity gives them an advantage since their offer is going to set the bar which the Jazz and the Celtics will try to surpass.
According to ESPN, following Miami, Hayward will head to Utah on Sunday. He is speaking with the Jazz on Monday before he flies to Boston.
Despite the Heat and the Celtics being top contenders, Hayward is still expected by many NBA aficionados to remain in Utah. Because the Jazz is his current team, it is the one that can offer him the most lucrative deal. ESPN mentioned that the Jazz could sign him to a five-year max contract that may earn him around $180 million.
Aside from the hefty amount, the previous season can also be used by Utah to persuade Hayward. The Jazz ended a four-year playoff drought last season. They reached the second round before getting eliminated by eventual champions, the Golden State Warriors.
