Chicago Bulls Free Agency Analysis: Time to Rebuild Post-Jimmy Butler Era, Bring Back Derrick Rose
Jimmy Butler is now part of the Minnesota Timberwolves. With him gone, the short-lived Jimmy Butler era has come to an end. Now, the Chicago Bulls will once again undergo the hard process of rebuilding.
Thankfully, Butler has a parting gift - two-time NBA Slam Dunk champion (2015, 2016) Zach LaVine, sophomore point guard Kris Dunn, and this year's NBA Draft No. 7 pick overall, 7'0" Finnish Lauri Markkanen. So what's next for the rebuilding Chicago Bulls?
Bring Kevin Love to Chicago
The free agency season has started a few days ago. Nonetheless, this won't stop NBA teams to make trade deals that would benefit their team in the long run. The Chicago Bulls front office still has a tradable asset by the name of Dwyane Wade. But who would be willing to bring in D-Wade than his former teammate, LeBron James.
It's an open secret that Dwyane Wade would like to play alongside LeBron and get more championship rings. But Wade, 35, is currently tied with the Chicago Bulls for one more year. LeBron, 33, also has a year left off his contract and is rumored to be heading to Los Angeles Lakers in 2018. Now, for the sake of making LeBron happy and stay in Cleveland, is the Cavaliers front office willing to let go Kevin Love in a one-on-one trade for D-Wade?
According to RealGM Trade Checker, a Kevin Love-Dwyane Wade trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). But more importantly, should the Cavs front office agree on this trade, this means a new era for the Chicago Bulls.
Bring Derrick Rose Back?
Two-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, also known as the Splash Brothers, started a new era, a new playing style for basketball. The Bulls front office may have not realized this but they have also contributed on this era with sweet-shooting big man Nikola Mirotic. According to Chicago Tribune, the two camps wanted their relationship to go beyond.
Now, picture this - Nikola Mirotic and Kevin Love pummeling the opponents beyond the arc while Robin Lopez man the baseline for offensive rebounding. Then you have Zach LaVine charging the basket with his thunderous slams. Surely, there's someone in the free agency who could man the point, probably bring back Derrick Rose would be a good idea.
