Conor McGregor News: UFC Champ Criticized Again; Destination of First Press Conference for Mayweather Fight Revealed
In Conor McGregor news, another lightweight contender ripped the UFC champion for failing to defend his title. Meanwhile, the destination of the first press conference for his fight with Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is now known.
Top UFC lightweight Edson Barboza blasted McGregor in a recent interview. Barboza believes the UFC should take McGregor's belt away, similar to what it did to former women's featherweight champ, Germaine de Randamie.
"Conor stays out for a long time. I don't think he worries about the UFC, don't worry about the division. He (doesn't) respect us, and the UFC don't get his belt. I really don't understand why the UFC got the belt from (Germaine de Randamie) and why the UFC (doesn't) get the belt from Conor? Take the belt (from) Conor. I really don't understand. I think this belt in the UFC, Conor's not a real champ," Barboza explained, as transcribed by MMA Mania.
Barboza went on to claim that McGregor's focus is on boxing. He added that going for the championship is his job and he "deserves" a title shot. The 31-year-old thinks that because of McGregor, the lightweight division is "stuck."
Barboza has a point. McGregor captured the lightweight crown last November when he finished Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205. Since then, he has not competed in mixed martial arts. Now, he is preparing for his professional boxing contest against Mayweather in August.
Speaking of McGregor's bout with Mayweather, The Sun reported that the first press conference for their fight is going to be in London. It will be at the Wembley Stadium, and 10,000 people are expected to witness the event which is taking place two weeks from now.
Mayweather is gunning for his 50th victory. If he beats McGregor, he will surpass the great Rocky Marciano. Mayweather and Marciano are the only boxers who finished their careers with 49-0 records.
