Apple iPhone 8: Wireless Charging Feature Disabled at Launch, Wireless Charging Accessories Sold Separately

When Apple's tenth year anniversary gift iPhone 8 is released purportedly this September, the wireless charging feature will be disabled. Somehow, this wireless charging feature will depend on the next major mobile operating system, more specifically its first major update which will be iOS 11.1 wherein the feature gets enabled.

According to Twitter user ATP Tipster, an Apple Global Security investigator, the inductive charging or more commonly known as the wireless charging feature of iPhone 8 will be sold separately. That means when iPhone 8 is launched hopefully by September, you won't see any wireless charger accessory inside the box.

That being said, iPhone 8 smartphone package will only include wall charger, though it is believed that the next Apple smartphone is pre-installed with iOS 11. Speaking of wireless charging, this feature will become enabled when the first major update on iOS 11 is released.

This latest rumor on iPhone 8 is actually in direct conflict with what Wistron CEO Robert Hwang, Apple's primary iPhone manufacturer in India. In a statement after the company's shareholder's meeting last June, Hwang teased that wireless charging is coming to at least one of the upcoming Apple devices.

"Assembly process for the previous generations of [iPhones] have not changed much, though new features like waterproof and wireless charging now require some different testing, and waterproof function will alter the assembly process a bit," Hwang said as posted by 9to5Mac.

Hwang's teaser also contradicts KGI Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo's earlier prediction that the wireless charging feature will be available on all three iPhones. Back in February, the wireless charging feature will become available on the redesigned iPhone 8 and two iPhone 7S as posted on 9to5Mac.

According to WCCFTech, there are rumors that Apple plans to integrate fast charging support using the USB PD standard on iPhone 8 will add. Then again, these fast charging accessories will be sold separately. We'll bring you more details on iPhone 8, next.
