Lonzo Ball Ditched His $495 BBB For Nike Sneaker Proves He's Not Merely A Passer In Best NBA Summer League Game Yet
Lonzo Ball doesn't have an official sponsorship deal with Nike, Adidas or Under Armour. Instead, he's been wearing $495 signature ZO2 sneakers made by his father's Big Baller Brand.
Lonzo Ball Ditched His $495 BBB For Nike Sneaker
Ball wore the sneakers for his first two Summer League games, but come Wednesday, Ball ditched the BBB's in favor of Nike sneakers. Ball was wearing the Nike Kobe AD sneakers for warm-ups on Wednesday, and he continued to wear the very purple Nike shoes during the actual game, according to FTW.
At this point, it's unclear why Ball elected to switch to the Nike shoes. He missed Monday's game against the Kings with a groin injury, and it's difficult to pin that on shoes. Big Baller Brand has struggled to get its inventory out to the customers willing to pay the $495, saying that shoes won't be shipped until November.
Lonzo Ball Proves He's Not Merely A Passer
If there's such thing as a coming out party in the summer league, that's what Lonzo Ball had Wednesday night. Ball scored 28 of his 36 points in the second half, dished out 11 assists.
He also collected eight rebounds from leading the Lakers to a 103-102 comeback victory over the 76ers in the Las Vegas Summer League playoffs. He went 12 of 22 from the field, including 3 of 10 from 3-point range, and made 9 of 12 free throws.
According to CBS Sports, one of Ball's faults in his first couple of games was that he was too unselfish. It's not surprising, he's a pass-first player always looking to get teammates involved.
However, it actually hurt the Lakers offense in those first two games. On Wednesday, Ball started off the same way, but once the Lakers fell behind he started doing what he needs to do to be successful in the NBA, he finished at the rim.
