NBA Trade Rumors: New York Knicks Moving On With or Without Carmelo Anthony
With Phil Jackson out, the New York Knicks front office is singing a different tune. For New York Knicks president Steve Mills, developing young talents is the number one priority of the team, and it is up to Carmelo Anthony to decide whether he wants to become part of it, or not.
Knicks Moving On With or Without Carmelo Anthony
"We've been in contact with Carmelo's representatives. We've been in contact with other teams," Mills said last Monday during the introduction of Knicks new general manager Scott Perry as posted by ESPN. Mills clarified that trading Carmelo is still an option though they believe that the ten-time All-Star will play a vital role in developing the young talent of the team should he decide to stay.
One thing is for sure, the New York Knicks is ready to move on past the forgettable Phil Jackson era. The question is whether the 33-year old NBA superstar would like to stay in New York. As what Mills stated, "We're going to move forward so maybe with Carmelo or without Carmelo."
Trade to Houston Rockets Complicated
It has since been known that Carmelo will waive his no-trade clause if the New York Knicks will deal him with either the Houston Rockets or the Cleveland Cavaliers. Lately, the Rockets are gaining leverage. However, they cannot complete a two-team deal - they need another team or two to complete the trade. Hence, they are seeking help from the Portland Trail Blazers.
But the Trail Blazers will only accept the terms if Carmelo will consider including Portland as possible destination once he waived his no-trade clause. They want to fight the Houston Rockets for the rights to get Carmelo from the New York Knicks.
For the Portland Trail Blazers, why help make another superpower in the West? There's the NBA champion Golden State Warriors. Then there's the Oklahoma City Thunder who acquired Paul George. Even the Houston Rockets upgraded with the arrival of Chris Paul. And then the San Antonio Spurs added Rudy Gay.
However, it seems that Carmelo Anthony is not interested in joining Damian Lillard, C.J. McCollum and the rest of the Portland Trail Blazers team. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski who appeared on The Jump (via KGW Portland), Carmelo will not consider waiving his no-trade clause to allow a trade to the Portland Trail Blazers.
With that, the trade plan is doomed to fail even if the talks hasn't resumed yet. Could it be that Carmelo Anthony will don the Knicks jersey once again?
