Could James McCarthy be heading to Manchester?

That's what's being reported by a British sports website today. The 21-year-old Irish midfielder's performances have apparently impressed Machester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson. He's consider a summer move for the Wigan Athletic player as ever pragmatic Ferguson continues to plan for the future.

Roberto Martinez will have troubles holding on to the 21-year-old if Man United decides to chase him, just like how  he couldn't keep Victor Moses from leaving for Chelsea last month.

McCarthy is in his fourth season at the DW Stadium having left Hamilton to join the Latics in a £1.2m deal back when he was a hyped and promising 18-year-old. My, how time has flown. The Irish star has made 88 appearances for Wigan and is a very capable midfielder who may feel the time is right to move up the footballing ladder.

Ferguson probably feels it's time to inject his team with a dose of youth, especially to the midfield, since his two main-stays, Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick, are 37 and 31, respectively.

Also, Paul Scholes sucks.

Of course, McCarthy has also been linked with Chelsea, so we'll see whose wallets open up first, because the kid is probably a goner.
