Georgia Bulldogs vs. South Carolina Gamecocks: Watch Live TV Stream Online for Free; Preview
Two SEC teams ranked in the top 10 nationally face off on Saturday as the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs take on the No. 6 South Carolina Gamecocks. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN at 7 p.m. ET, and you can also watch a live TV stream online for free here or here.
Georgia breezed through its early season schedule, winning its first four games by an average of 31 points. Last weekend, the Bulldogs struggled to contain the Tennessee Volunteers offense, which at the time boasted the top passing attack in the SEC. Georgia allowed nearly 500 yards of total offense and needed three late turnovers to pull out the 51-44 victory.
The Bulldogs have remained undefeated this season largely thanks to their explosive offense, which ranks eighth in the nation and first in the SEC in points per game. However, that unit suffered a major blow this week when redshirt sophomore wideout Michael Bennett tore his anterior cruciate ligament in practice. Bennett, who led the team with 345 yards receiving, will likely be out the remainder of the season.
Without him, the Bulldogs will need to rely on senior receivers Marlon Brown and Tavarres King. King is second on the team with 307 yards and averages over 19 yards per reception. Brown, meanwhile, is third on the squad with 264 yards. Both have three touchdowns on the season.
However, Brown, King and the rest of the Bulldogs offense will have a tough task on Saturday against one of the top defenses in the country. South Carolina is allowing just 11.2 points per game, sixth-best among FBS schools. The Gamecocks have not allowed more than 17 points in any contest this season.
But, the best offense South Carolina has faced this season is the Missouri Tigers, who rank just 66th in the nation in points per game. The explosive Georgia Bulldogs squad will present a new challenge.
South Carolina is coming off a 38-17 victory over the Kentucky Wildcats. The Gamecocks trailed 17-7 at halftime but scored 31 straight points to pull out the win. The defense forced two Kentucky turnovers and held the Wildcats to under 300 total yards. Preseason All-American running back Marcus Lattimore led the way offensively with 120 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Saturday's matchup marks the first time in the history of this rivalry that both squads are ranked in the top 10 nationally. Georgia has dominated the series over the years, winning 46 of the 64 contests between the two schools. However, South Carolina has won in each of the last two seasons, including last year's thrilling 45-42 victory.
This rivalry has featured some close contests over the last few years, as eight of the last 11 meetings have been decided by a touchdown or less. Considering how well both teams have played so far this season, Saturday's matchup should be no different.
