The New York Knicks open up their preseason tonight on the road against the Washington Wizards. The game will be broadcast live at 7 p.m. ET on NBA TV and MSG, but you can also watch a live stream online for free here.

The Knicks are coming off a season in which they finished second in the Atlantic Division but lost to the eventual champion Miami Heat in the first round of the playoffs. Only six players return from last year's roster, including injured guard Iman Shumpert, who will likely be out until at least December while recovering from a knee injury. Shumpert started 35 games last season before tearing his anterior cruciate ligament.

With Shumpert hurt, it is still unclear who will start the season at shooting guard for the Knicks. J.R. Smith has stated his desire to take over the role, but coach Mike Woodson told him he will be the team's sixth man instead.

Another guard, Ronnie Brewer, is also injured, which means new addition James White could start the season at the position. However, White is dealing with a sore right hamstring and will not make the trip to Washington, according to the New York Post.

The other four starters for the team are pretty set in stone. Amar'e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony will team up at the forward positions once again, while Tyson Chandler will play center. Raymond Felton returns to the squad to play point guard, replacing Jeremy Lin, who signed an offer sheet with the Houston Rockets in the offseason. However, Stoudemire will not play tonight after bruising his knee in Wednesday's practice.

The Knicks also signed several veteran players in free agency. These include Jason Kidd, Marcus Camby and Rasheed Wallace. The latter two also will not play tonight, as Camby is recovering from a strained calf, and Wallace is still getting back into basketball shape after being out of the league for two seasons.

The Wizards, meanwhile, are coming off a 20-46 season and finished in the bottom third of the league in both points scored and points allowed per game. Then came news that the team's best player, John Wall, will be out a minimum of eight weeks with a stress injury to his patella tendon.

Washington then signed Jannero Pargo to help fill the void at guard, but the veteran was injured his first day with the team. Thus A.J. Price will start at the position tonight alongside Jordan Crawford. But Crawford, who averaged career-highs in points, assists, and rebounds last season, may be forced to play at both the shooting and point guard positions, according to the Washington Times.

Forward Nene will also miss the game as he recovers from plantar fasciitis in his left foot.
