After yet another struggling performance by Jeremy Lin and yet another loss for the Los Angeles Lakers this weekend -- in which Pau Gasol didn't play -- it's looking more and more likely that the Lakers will look to trade Gasol, while the Rockets are learning the hard way that they overpaid for Lin.

And, sadly, Jim Dolan is looking like a genius right now.

As we reported last week, Israel Gutierrez of ESPN.com threw out a trade proposal that made a lot of sense: Jeremy Lin 林书豪  and Chandler Parsons for Pau Gasol.

A search on Twitter will reveal that fans of both franchises are for this move. As we analyzed last week, the Lakers offense right now simply has no use for Gasol, who doesn't have the range that D'Antoni wants in his big men.

Meanwhile, Lin clearly played his best ball under D'Antoni last February, when "Linsanity" was born and became a worldwide phenomenon.

The Rockets have to be kicking themselves over locking up Lin for 25 million right now.

According to an NBA scout, who spoke to ESPN on the condition that his identity not be revealed, the addition of James Harden further made Lin expendable. "Lin needs the ball."

Putting Lin back in D'Antoni's free flowing, point-guard-driven offense would allow him the chance to excel. Of course, Lin will have to come off the bench behind Nash, but given Nash's advanced age -- he's 40 soon -- Lin would still get plenty of minutes.

An examination of the salary situation with both teams shows that a package involving Lin and Parsons in exchange for Gasol would work. The Rockets would lose some financial security down the line, since Gasol has two more years at 19 million each locked up, but they will have a star big man to pair with Harden. The Lakers, of course, would be in luxury tax mode, but they've never shied away from that before. In fact, with Lin's salary being smaller than Gasols, the Lakers' financial burden would drop off in year three.
