Most football fans know Victor Cruz as the sensational wide receiver of the New York Giants, and while Cruz may have not had a very good game agasint the Atlanta Falcons on Monday, he did more than enough on the field.
Victor Cruz paid tribute to a student killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings in Newtown, Conn. by writing "RIP Jack Pinto" on his shoes. The star wide-reciever also wrote notes to Jack Pinto on his gloves.
The tribute came about like this: Cruz found out that a child that was killed in the elementary school shooting, Jack Pinto, was one of his biggest fans. Cruz was getting hundreds of tweets about the 6-year-old who loved the Giants. Cruz instructed his fiancée and publicist to get in touch with the family, and after some searching, she was able to do so.

"I was in the hotel (in Atlanta) and as I was talking to them I was fighting back tears. You could hear everybody in the background crying as well. It was tough to listen to," Cruz said according to the NY Daily News.
"He could barely speak to me. I was just talking to him, telling him to stay strong, to stay positive and I'm going to help the family any way I can,'' Cruz said.
Cruz decided to dedicate the game to Jack. He tweeted "Today's game if or you Jack." Although the New York Giants lost an extremely important conference matchup with playoff implications, Cruz said that he was still happy that he was able to make a connection with the family.
"It felt good to honor a family that was going through so much," Cruz said in an ESPN New York report. "Messages can go out to these athletes, and some athletes just brush them off. So it felt good to be one of these athletes that really listened to that family, and really did something to pay tribute to them."
Cruz said that he planned to make a trip to visit the family this week, even if it was for nly one hour. He said that he planned to bring the shoes and the gloves with Jack's name on them as gifts. Cruz said that he was told by Jack's parents that they were considering burying him in a Victor Cruz jersey.
