Everybody wants to know who Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez will end up fighting next. Unfortunately, it won't be each other. At least not yet. The two fighers will instead take seperate fights in the Spring or Summer in hopes of hyping up a winter 2013 clash between each other.
Canelo Alvarez is a rising star in the sport of boxing and now that Manny Pacquiao got put to sleep by Juan Manuel Marquez, he becomes the main fighter everyone wants to see Floyd Mayweather fight. First, Alvarez will have to get by Austin Trout on May 4th. While no contract has been signed yet, it is reportedly a done deal that those two will fight each other for the junior middleweight title.

More intriguing than the Alvarez vs. Trout fight itself is the fact that it will likely take place on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather's next fight which will reportedly be against Robert Guerrero. Sadly, fans will have a hard time getting excited for either Canelo Alvarez vs. Austin Trout or Floyd Mayweather vs. Robert Guerrero. But it is obvious that the two fighters are building the hype for an eventual Canelo Alvarez vs. Floyd Mayweather super fight down the road.
Canelo Alvarez more than any other fighter in boxing right now has the best shot at handing Floyd Mayweather the first loss of his professional fighting career. He is in his physical prime and he is naturally bigger and naturally stronger than Money May. It would be a fight everyone would pay to see if indeed it does happen later this year.
In the meantime, Canelo and Money May better make sure they take care of business against their upcoming May opponents. They will both enter the ring as heavy favorites, but as we have learned many times before, anything can happen when two fighters step into the ring.
