After winning five straight games and tying their longest winning streak of the season, the Rockets have now lost two in a row. Their most recent defeat was a 103-91 loss to the Boston Celtics on Friday night. Houston, the second-best scoring offense in the NBA, was held under 100 points for the second straight game after topping that mark in each contest during its five-game winning streak.
Guard James Harden led the Rockets with 24 points, though he also had six turnovers. Jeremy Lin, meanwhile, had 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting and did not turn the ball over once.
Harden, in fact, is averaging 3.7 turnovers per game, according to NBA.com. The only player with a worse average is Philadelphia guard Jrue Holiday, who averages 3.8 giveaways per contest. Jeremy Lin, who has a reputation for turning the ball over, is 10th in the NBA with 4.5 giveaways per game. The struggling Lakers are the only other team with two players in the top 10.
Despite Houston's loss to Boston, the Rockets have dominated against the Eastern Conference this season. The Rockets are 14-3 against the East this year but are six games below .500 against the Western Conference.
The 76ers, meanwhile, are seven games under .500 after an 18-point loss to the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night. It was Philadelphia's fourth-straight loss by 18 points or more, tying a franchise record, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
Philadelphia had played 12 of its past 16 games on the road, losing 10 of those contests. However, he 76ers did get two days off before facing the Rockets tonight.
Houston has lost seven of its last 10 games to Philadelphia, though the Rockets did win their matchup earlier this season. In that game, center Omer Asik had a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds, while guard Toney Douglas hit five three-pointers in just 25 minutes of play. Harden, meanwhile, led all scorers with 33 points, more than half of which came at the free throw line, while Jeremy Lin added 18 points and six assists.
