Houston climbed back over .500 on Friday with a 100-82 victory over the New Orleans Hornets. According to the Associated Press, it was the first time in 13 games that the Rockets did not trail by double digits.
In fact, Houston led nearly the entire game, thanks in part to 30 points from guard James Harden. Four of Houston's five starters scored in double figures, including forward Patrick Patterson, who added a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Point guard Jeremy Lin, meanwhile, racked up 13 points, eight assists and six steals in the Hornets victory. Those steals tied Lin's career high, according to Focus Taiwan. In fact, the point guard is currently third in the NBA with 2.04 steals per game.
Lin will hope to improve his play against a squad he played well against last season. According to NBA.com, the point guard had 46 points and 16 assists in two meetings with the Nets last year as a member of the New York Knicks.
The Nets, meanwhile, dropped to 26-17 on the season after a blowout loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night. Brooklyn's two starting guards, Deron Williams and Joe Johnson, shot a combined 4-of-10 from the field, and Williams actually left the game with a quad injury. However, coach PJ Carlesimo told the New York Post that the guard would have returned on Friday if the game had been close.
Despite the loss, the Nets have been playing well as of late. The New York Times notes that Brooklyn had won 10 of its past 11 games before the Grizzlies contest. The Nets currently sit 1.5 games back of the Knicks in the Atlantic Division.
These two teams last faced off back in March, when Houston defeated the Nets, 112-106. Williams and center Brook Lopez both sat out that contest with injuries, so guard MarShon Brooks took over the scoring with 23 points and seven assists in 32 minutes. Forward Kris Humphries added 10 points and seven assists.
For the Rockets, Chandler Parsons scored 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting.
While Lopez did not play well in that matchup, he has historically performed well against the Rockets. According to NBA.com, the center averaged 20.6 points per game in his five prior contests against Houston. Joe Johnson has also played well against the Rockets as a member of the Atlanta Hawks, averaging 21.6 points per game in his last eight games against Houston.
