American skier Lindsey Vonn crashed during her run at the World Skiing Championships and was airlifted to a local hospital. According to the Twitter of Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, Vonn suffered ACL and MCL tears in her right knee.
The four-time World Cup champion lost her balance on a turn during her first run of the day in Schladming, Austria. After trying to correct herself, she fell and slid off the course. She ended by hitting a gate and finally stopping down the mountain. She was heard screaming in pain as crews went to check on her. She trailed the leader of the race by 0.12 seconds before the crash happened.

Emergency crews worked on Vonn for 12 minutes on the course before she was airlifted to a hospital. Neither her ski team nor her sponsor, Red Bull, had any comment on her condition. The Associated Press initially reported that Vonn suffered a right knee injury and her competition at the World Championships is now over.
The race was delayed over three hours due to poor visibility. It was delayed another 15 minutes before the first skier was released for a heat. The action started but it was not nearly good enough for racing with commentators even questioning whether the race should go on. Three other skiers after Vonn's accident did not finish the course.
"It's not a very difficult course, but in some parts you couldn't see anything," Fabienne Suter of Switzerland told reporters.
Vonn wrote a blog for the Denver Post on Monday saying that she was not able to practice on the course due to constant rain and snow and she was somewhat concerned about it.
"We were supposed to have free skiing on the race course Monday, which means two or three runs for you to learn about the terrain and snow conditions. But it snowed so much, they closed it to everyone including coaches. None of our staff had been on the hill. We don't know what shape the hill is in. We don't know anything about it," Vonn said in her blog.
As previously reported by iSportsTimes, Vonn and Tiger Woods are rumored to have been dating each other for the past few months. Will Woods make an appearance in Austria to see her? His schedule is free according to his website. What better way for Woods to show that he cares about Lindsey than to show up and nurse her back to health.
More will be reported on the story as information is released.
