Jerry Buss, owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, has reportedly died after being hospitalized last week. Check back for more updates as this story unfolds.
Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times first broke the news via tweet.
A self-made millionaire through real estate, Buss purchased the Lakers in 1979. He was responsible for trading for Kareem Abdu Jabbar, drafting Magic Johnson and helping Jerry West build the most recent dynasty by signing Shaquille O'Neal and trading for Kobe Bryant in the summer of 1996.
The Lakers won 10 championships during Buss' reign. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010.
Buss' passing is tragic, considering the owner was so used to the Lakers' winning ways, yet left at a time when the Lakers' future has never looked more bleak.
