Houston is coming off a blowout loss to the Golden State Warriors on Sunday. Guards Jeremy Lin and James Harden each scored 21 points, but the team has a whole could not overcome another slow start. Houston had a season-low 10 points in the first quarter, shooting just 3-of-23 from the floor and committing four turnovers.
In fact, per ESPN's Daily Dime, Houston has been outscored by 8.3 points per contest over the first part of this month. Surprisingly, the Rockets are still 5-3 over that stretch.
Jeremy Lin has been part of the reason for Houston's success over its last few games. As IBTimes noted, the point guard is shooting 51.1 percent from the field this month, seven percentage points higher than his average for much of the season. He also is averaging just 2.5 turnovers in March, his lowest total of the 2012-13 campaign.
He and the rest of the team will have to quickly rebound from Sunday's tough loss, as Wednesday's game against the Jazz will be vital for Houston's playoff chances. The Jazz currently sit in ninth place in the Western Conference, just two games behind the seventh-place Rockets.
Houston already defeated the Jazz two out of three times this season. A win on Wednesday would give the Rockets the head-to-head tiebreaker and essentially a three-game lead over Utah in the conference.
In the most recent contest, Houston blew out the Jazz, 125-80. Harden led the squad with 25 points despite sitting out the entire fourth quarter, while center Omer Asik added a team-high 19 rebounds. It was the worst home loss in Utah's history, beating a 126-93 defeat in November of 1980.
This came almost two months after Houston's first victory over the Jazz this season. In early December, the Rockets won, 124-116, thanks to a balanced shooting performance. All five Houston starters reached double figures, including 19 each from Jeremy Lin and forward Chandler Parsons.
Utah got its only win over Houston this season on November 19. Utah guard Gordon Hayward led the Jazz with 15 points off the bench, while fellow guard Randy Foye and center Al Jefferson each added 14.
However, the squad has struggled as of late. Per NBA.com, Utah has lost nine of its last 12 games and is shooting under 39 percent from the field over its last three games. The Jazz have also lost six games in a row on the road heading into Wednesday's contest at the Toyota Center.
