Before you watch the live stream of Jeremy Lin's Rockets versus the Grizzlies, here is a preview of the matchup.
Houston is coming off a nine-point loss to the Indiana Pacers. Once again, a slow start doomed the squad. Per the Associated Press, Houston fell behind 35-19 in the first quarter and never recovered. The Rockets did get within four points midway through the third quarter, thanks to a three-point play from Jeremy Lin.
Guard James Harden led the Rockets with 22 points but shot just 6-of-24 from the field. However, several of the team's bench players shined. Forward Greg Smith had 18 points and 19 rebounds, while fellow forward Thomas Robinson scored 10 points in 22 minutes.
Jeremy Lin, meanwhile, had just eight points for his third-straight single digit effort. It has been a bad week for the point guard, who also had to watch his alma mater Harvard lose to Arizona in the NCAA Tournament. Jeremy Lin later posted a photo of himself on Instagram wearing an Arizona shirt, which was apparently part of his payment from a bet.
Still, despite the Pacers' loss, Houston is in decent shape in the Western Conference playoff mix. The squad is still in seventh place and 3.5 games ahead of ninth-place Utah. If the Rockets can recover quickly from the Pacers loss, they could make the postseason for the first time since the 2008-09 season, per NBA.com.
"One loss is one loss but if we learn from it, it can be a good thing for us," Jeremy Lin told the website. "The key is not to compound one loss with another one.
The Rockets will look to do just that against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday. Memphis has lost three of its last eight games, including a seven-point defeat to the New York Knicks on Wednesday night. Memphis trailed by as much as 30 in that contest but pulled within four with 33 seconds left. However, New York made its free throws to seal the Knicks win.
The Grizzlies have struggled with their defense as of late. Memphis has allowed at least 100 points in each of its last three games, going 1-2 in that span. This despite allowing an average of just 90 points per game, second best in the NBA. That defense will once again be put to the test on Friday, as Houston boasts the second-highest scoring offense in the league.
Memphis did shut down this same Houston squad earlier this season. On November 9, the Grizzlies defeated the Rockets, 93-85, holding Harden to 4-of-18 shooting. Center Omer Asik did have a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds, while Jeremy Lin had 15 points in 37 minutes of play.
A month later, Houston got revenge with a 121-96 victory. This time Harden scored 31 points in the win, while Jeremy Lin had a double-double with 15 points and 11 assists.
