Likely a response to the death of Snowmobile Best Trick competitor Caleb Moore back in January, X Games announced in March that it will discontinue the Moto X Best Trick event this year. However, ESPN announced the decision was made independent to the incident that occurred during the Winter X Games.

"Moto X Best Trick and Snowmobile Best Trick were not dropped in response to what happened in Aspen," an ESPN spokesman said. "This decision was under consideration before Aspen, and, in fact, our review of Snowmobile Freestyle continues."

Caleb Moore was killed when he under-rotated his snowmobile in a backflip attempt. The machine crushed his body, causing serious trauma to his head and heart.

The X Games' Moto X Best Trick competition has played a key role in pushing the envelope of trick motocross riding. Epic tricks include the first moto double backflip performed by Travis Pastrana in 2006. In 2009, Kyle Loza performed the "Electric Doom" body varial to win gold.

"Best trick was my favorite event both as a competitor and a spectator," said Travis Pastrana, an 11-time X Games gold medalist. "It was a staple of progression in FMX but also the most risky part of it. A lot of athletes would cross from other disciplines or learn a special skill specifically for best trick. Usually these athletes were capable of landing their trick in a foam pit or on special set up but under pressure, they rarely did which added to the dangerousness of it. Either way I was a fan of this event and will be sad to see it go."

Despite the disappointing cancellation of Best Trick, X Games will continue to host Freestyle and the Step Up Final.

Freestyle Moto X, or FMX, will allow two routines for each competing rider over an elaborate course consisting of multiple jumps of varying lengths and angles. A panel of judges will give a score to each rider based on a 100-point scale. Judges will score the routines based on a rider's techique, variation, creativity and difficulty.

The Step Up Final is exactly as the title suggests -- a straightforward, yet thrilling, motocycle high-jump competition.

Be sure not to miss the X Games Moto X Freestyle and Step Up Final on On Friday, April 19. The FMX competition will begin at 6:30 p.m. EST. The Step Up Final begins at 7:00 p.m. The competitions will air live on ESPN3. However, if you can't watch it on TV, you can also find the online live stream online via WatchESPN.
