Saturday plays host to a Madrid derby as Atletico welcomes cross-town neighbors, Real, to the Vicente Calderon.

This league meeting would be considered preparation for the final of the Copa del Rey next month, where both teams are scheduled to battle for the trophy. The game kicks off at 2 p.m. EDT and can be watched on beIN Sport or streamed online (at user's risk).

This game is all about the record books. Second place is also up for grabs with Atletico only three points behind Real, but considering that both second and third gain automatic qualification for the Champions League, it makes little practical difference who finishes second. The main topic of discussion heading into this game is Atletico's abysmal record against their local rivals, not having defeated Real for the last 14 years.

"Real Madrid is a special opponent, for everything playing against our city rivals means and everything surrounding this type of game. It's a very special game and we all really want to win", Atletico captain Gabi told Marca.

"It's ages since we last beat them and since we were in such a finely balanced situation where we could actually draw level with them on points, setting a level playing field in preparation for playing a final," he said. "We're playing at a very high level and we need to take advantage of our opportunities. Saturday is a good opportunity for us."

Saturday is an excellent opportunity for them to break the awful record. Madrid played a difficult game in Germany Wednesday and are scheduled to play Borussia Dortmund at home Tuesday. Mourinho's focus is clearly on the Champions League, with the league title out of reach for Los Blancos. The Portuguese manager is likely to rest several key players, giving fringe players the opportunity to stake their claim for the Champions League game midweek. If Atletico plays to its potential and Radamel Falcao has a good game, Saturday would see a historic win for Madrid's second club.

Alvaro Arbeloa (back) and Marcelo (muscle tear) will be out for Madrid. Michael Essien could fill in at full-back after returning from a hamstring injury. Arda Turan is doubtful for Atletico with ankle problems but midfielder Thiago is scheduled to return for the game.

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored six goals in his last three games against Atletico but it isn't certain that he will play.
