Liverpool Transfer News 2013: Krkic, Atsu, Aspas, And Begovic Linked To Latest Summer Transfer Rumours
Much is needed to change the fortunes of Liverpool heading into the 2013-2014 season after finishing in seventh place, and even worse, behind Everton in the final table. Four players have been linked this week to joining the Reds as transfer speculation has heated up following the close of the season earlier this month.
According to Talk Sport, Liverpool are joined by Newcastle United in pursuit of Barcelona forward Bojan Krkic. The 22-year-old is not expected to return to Camp Nou following a loan spell at AC Milan last season. He scored three goals in 19 appearance for Milan, but it is probably best for both parties to part ways, as the quick forward is probably better off in the faster Premier League than in Serie A. Krkic is just one forward that Liverpool can use if reports are accurate that Luis Suarez will move on from the Premier League this summer.
Liverpool could bolster their left side by adding winger Christian Atsu. Daily Mirror reported that Liverpool offered £3 million to Porto for the 21-year-old from Ghana. Atsu spend the 2011-2012 season with Rio Ave on a loan, and scored six times in 27 appearances.
The Daily Mirror and The Express have both reported that Iago Aspas is on Rodgers's radar. The 25-year-old forward has been a mainstay for Celta Vigo, joining the club in 2008. The 5'9 Spaniard has scored 46 times in 136 appearances with the club. Chelsea and Swansea were both reportedly interested in adding Aspas in the winter.
Finally, with Pepe Reina heavily linked to Barcelona, Liverpool may be exploring goalkeeper options. One rumour that has surfaced is Asmir Begovic. The Sun reported that Liverpool made a £15 million move for the Stoke City star. However, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea have also been linked to Bosnian.
With Suarez, Reina, and Martin Skrtel possibly on the way out, Rodgers may have a busy summer ahead of him. The Reds could be in need of a major shakeup, and new blood might be just what is needed at Anfield to reverse the club's fortunes.
