Manchester United are tracking a number of exciting young players and are expected to make a move in January after Sir Alex's scouts had earmarked the players before he left last summer.
Top of the list is Ilkay Gundogan. The Borussia Dortmund player was an Arsenal target during the summer, but they bought Mesut Ozil instead. Gundogan was on the Manchester United radar as early as 2011 when he was at Nuremburg, but Dortmund came in and snapped him up before United could act. He had previously stated that his preference was to go to Old Trafford and now he has told Dortmund that he will not be renewing his contract in 2015. That leaves open the door for David Moyes to make a serious midfield signing to augment that of Marouane Fellaini. Dortmund will not want the player to run down his contract and will probably listen to offers in January if the price is right.

Moyes is also going to have to battle to get young Barcelona player, Sergi Roberto, to leave the Camp Nou. Roberto is a central midfielder in the Paul Scholes mould and Tottenham tried last year and failed as the Catalans rejected their offer, however, Moyes will be going in with a substantial offer for the 21 year old who has broken into the first team at Barcelona this season, albeit on for 15 minutes. With Moyes missing out on Cesc Fabregas, Ander Herrera and Thiago Alcantara in the summer transfer window, he will be keen to strike an early blow in January.
In better new for David Moyes, Manchester United still head the race for the exciting youngster, Bruno Gomes, from Desportivo, Brazil. Gomes was on trial last year at Old Trafford and Sir Alex Ferguson had made sure that United had first refusal on the player. Now David Moyes will want to take up that offer and make a move for the player. However, he faces stiff opposition from firstly Sao Paulo in Brazil, but more importantly from the likes of Real Madrid and Udinese. It has been suggested that the first refusal offer only applies until the offer exceeds a certain amount, but we do not know the level of that figure. Gomes is still only 17 years old and has already stated that United is his preferred destination, so it is up to Moyes to make sure that United get the deal done in January.
