What Are The San Diego Chargers' Chances Of Making Playoffs After Upset Victory?

After last night's stunning 27-20 victory over the Denver Broncos, the San Diego Chargers now have new life. A loss in this game would have made it impossible for them to earn a playoff bid. Philip Rivers, Keenan Allen and the Chargers' defense did everything necessary to keep their dreams alive. The Bolts ended the game controlling the ball for more than 39 minutes, keeping the high-powered Broncos offense off the field - a blueprint to beat any team of this caliber.

Now, with three games remaining and playing better than they have all season; the Chargers' hopes are still but they have a hill to climb. Winning out will not even guarantee them a wild-card spot. They will be needing help from both the Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins. Both of those teams currently have a 7-6 record and hold tiebreakers over the Chargers. The Chargers will need both of these teams to finish the season with a 1-2 record in order to make it to the dance.
Now we ask ourselves - how good of chance does that give the Bolts? Well the good thing is that they will finish the season at home. The bad thing is like I said - they will need some help, and they have one game remaining against the Kansas City Chiefs. I have full faith that the Chargers can go 2-0 to finish off the season strong; regardless of a playoff spot.
The Ravens and Dolphins have some tough games remaining so it is not totally crazy to imagine that the Chargers have a pretty good shot to make it to the postseason. The Ravens have it extremely tough; having to face the New England Patriots, Cincinnati Bengals and Detroit Lions - all of which are playoff teams. If they lost all three of those games then I do not think anyone would be surprised. Each team has a better record than the Ravens, so that does not fold well for their chances to go at least 2-1.
The Dolphins have it slightly easier than the Ravens - facing off against the Buffalo Bills on the road, the New York Jets at home and of course that matchup this week against the New England Patriots. We all know they can lose the game against the Patriots, so the remaining two are the more important matchups. I think they could easily beat the Jets but the Bills at home will not be so easy. The Bills do have a chance to win that game.
What all of that says for the Chargers' playoff hopes if that they actually have a shot to do this. I think it will come down to what the Dolphins do, after the Ravens win only one of their remaining three games. The Dolphins will lose to the Patriots and that will leave it up to the Bills to play spoilers to the Dolphins' postseason hopes. That leaves the door wide open for the Bolts to rise from beneath the ashes and soar into the playoffs with confidence.
Philip Rivers finished the Broncos game with 166 yards. two touchdowns and zero interceptions.
Keenan Allen scored two more touchdowns - looking like top pick for Offensive Rookie of Year.
Chargers picked up 177 yards on the ground - Ryan Mathews went over 1000 yards on the season.
